I have been told of a 1991 Range Rover for sale fitted with a 1995 300 TDI engine gearbox and transfer case, would you think its a good combo, or will it be under powered, and any ideas of what I should look for with this sort of build....................Thanks

My mate is selling one with a 200TDi, proffesional build and lots of paperwork (engine might be a gold-seal too) for £2k

Not being a diesel guy up to now, whats the difference between a 200tdi and 300 tdi, any advantages over each?
-
Each have their own fans, some people think the 200 is the stronger, some say the 300 is quieter.
I'ver only had 300TDI which I like, but I think either are a good engine. I'm sure someone will be along who knows them better than me.
-
The biggest difference is control; the 200 is 100% mechanical from the pedal to the injection. The 300 starts bringing in electronics, it is smoother and a tad quieter but really the performance on both is much the same.
Tobe honest ona conversion I would tend to prefer the 200 as it is more basic and hence less liable to complications.

So would a RR be underpowered with a 200tdi or 300tdi, compared to a 3.5 v8. I am assuming it weighs more than a Disco.
-
But wasnt the 300tdi only more electronic from about 1996 onwards with the third phase of the engine?
I have had both in discovery's but would definately prefer the 300tdi again, cos i loved it.
The 200tdi engine is fantastic also.
Just also to note there is a 300tdi rangie with mot on it for sale by me on an m plate for £1500
-
Is it a LHD?
-
no, standard rhd
-
No good for me here..........shame
-
Aye, if i had the money i would have it like a shot, cos its well underpriced.

If you are used to a V8 then either Diesel will feel a big sluggish but they are certainly not underpowered.
The first Disco was built on a Range Rover Chassis and Land Rover fittted both engines to Range Rovers so it is more than capable.
I think the 300 got more electronic as time went on. Really electronics are personal choice, they do a good job but the more you have the harder home maintinance is (without Rovercom).

You wouldn't think so if you saw Julie's
Yes the TDi is a little slower, RRR now has a TDi auto and It's definitely not as quick as her old V8 auto, but it's not embarasingly slow. And it does about 30mpg :)
