:D I have a big smile on my face 'cos I've just got one !!! :D
Wow - I've never owned a V8 before & I'm just finding out what all the fuss is about !! It's totally different to the 3.1 TD I last owned. Obviously the power's incomparable, but it feels a lot different on the road too - altogether tighter. I don't know if the suspension is stiffened on this model to cope better with the power. And the silence of the engine ! Good job it has a tacho 'cos I need to keep checking the engine's still running when I come to a halt  And the V8 roar as you accelerate :D
So now, a couple of questions  My Grand has Quadra-Drive which locks the centre diff when it's put in Lo - then the handbook states that the 'optional' Vari-Loc axles are automatic - but my question is, how do I know if mine has the Vari-Loc axles or not ? How do I find the spec of my particular Grand ?
My other question - it's fitted with the original Jeep 10 disc changer. Which position do I put the head cleaner in the multi-changer to clean it ?
Boy am I happy that I came back to a Grand Cherokee - especially the V8 - I just love it to bits    :D

glad you moved to the dark side :D its a beast alright.............many more smiles from now on then.

Nice one....

You can either get a build sheet from jeep, or jack up the axle off the floor, spin the wheel, if the other wheel spins in the opposite direction then it's an open diff, if it goes in the same direction you've a vari-lock (worm drive LSD IIRC)

It will also get a lot harder to keep turning the wheel around after a few turns.
Oh, and welcome to the world of proper Jeeps  see you at the petrol station

Thanks for the comments ;)
I'll try & contact the supplying dealer I guess or Jeep (where are they built ?) I only do one kind of jacking these days
I actually can't wait for the weekend so I can get the Jeep out of the garage again !!!
With this level of fun, who cares about the petrol - it's worth it !!!

Non-US/Asia Jeeps are built in Austria. However, for the build sheet just let a Jeep dealership know the chassis number. ASAIK you'll have the Vari-Lok diffs (you jammy b'stard!).
Agree with the V8 engine noise (quietness and growl) - very cool. Welcome to the world of gas-guzzling planet killers

If you're after packages like our green shield friends get (tyres + modular wheels) then you'll have a job as the nut config is non-standard. Personally, I've just replaced the tyres on mine with some muds. Your best bet may be to get some spare wheels, fit the ATs to these and swap them over as and when.

yep thats what i was thinking of doing
any ideas of what sizes I can get away with??
Cheers

Since you appear to have a later version of the WJ, I assume you have 17" wheels - I have 16". :'( How about 235/65 R17 Colway C Trax MT from 4x4tyres.com?
Look through the manual and see what Jeep recommend for Snow tyres and go for that size.

dont the colways wear at a silly rate

No personal experience of Colways, but a mate has them on a Rangy without any issues. He's had the tyres in excess of 4 years, although the Rangy is a weekend toy so doesn't do a huge amount of mileage.

Just driven mine to norfolk after picking up a 2001 wj whata economic run!
The V8 is inreal on a long run

Good on you
The Jeep's great on any run !! Can't wait to get mine out of the garage for the weekend !!!

It seems so although asked on another thread about the movement in back wheels?
Got to learn all the jeep quirks now !
