Title: magazine choice
Post by: lambert on April 02, 2012, 20:45:01
Hi.

Having fallen out with total off road, got bored with EVO and retro classics I found my way into lroi. Guess what, I'm bored of that too. So I need some suggestions. I  want to read about modded defenders and early land rover products. I want meaningful articles on restoration and survivor cars. I'm not wanting a d4 in the dessert or an evoque in a trough of water. I also want an assumed level of knowledge above the usual idiots guide.

So what is out there or am I on a hide to nothing.

IMHO. They are all much of a sameness and it seems that its the same material thats used by them all that gets bought out at differing times of the year,i stopped buying them on a regular basis because of the above reasons, yea your on a hideing to nothing.

Better information on the internet than you'd ever find in a glossy advert filled mag.

I've subscribed to them all at one time or another over the years, but now I don't bother with any of them, too many adverts and reviews for new cars which are well beyond my financial reach.

Good luck with whatever you choose though.

I mostly frequent several web sites, some of which are land rover related  almost any question you want answered, can be answered by at least one member of each online site. It's just a matter of filtering guesses from actual advice, then you can't easily go wrong. But sometimes answers can be a little slow in coming through, as a lot of people who know what they are talking about, are busy using their knowledge on their own/friends vehicles offline.

That said it is a good idea to have a quick read through any new publications, no matter the brand, just to keep an eye on new products, new events that have not made it to the 4x4 calender yet, updated suppliers/addresses/contact information etc. and If you see something of interest, then you should always buy the issue.

So if somebody would get pics and information, dates, times, write ups, etc of normal peoples land rovers, but specialized in the older type Disco's or series, and had no Glossy write up's of New land rovers and quite a few less adverts, then maybe people would buy it ?????????????

it would mean getting peeps, stories and experiences of ownership, and getting information from various clubs up and down the country to obtain all the data needed each month to put togeather a monthly mag dedicated to older Landy's and maybe sell it at clubs or online

mmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Paul

All that info is available on the web and these days with the price of printing ,decent paper, etc etc the price of mags have gone through the roof and its hard to get peeps to part with their money ,so the web is all powerful add to that the fact that you can ask questions about the truck ,club or whatever  who wants to part with a fiver for something that goes in the bin next day?

Having given up magazines now I have to say I'm better off financially and I hope no less well informed as a consequence.
