Title: worn mainshaft
Post by: Dr Neil on June 03, 2007, 20:38:07
I removed my transfer box last Tuesday to check the mainshaft splines for wear........blimey did i get a shock  There was less than 1mm of the splines left on the shaft and the splines in the input gear in the transfer box were just as bad,it's a wonder the thing kept turning! So out came the gearbox and took it to work to strip it down. After finding out what bits were needed i got on the phone to Ashcrofts 'bowt 3.30 Wednesday afternoon to get them ordered, you wouldn't believe how helpful the lady was :D .After making payment i asked when the parts would arrive and she said it would be tommorrow (Thursday).

9 a.m Thursday morning the parts arrived(good service or wot).Myself and Stanton Boy rebuilt the gearbox and i took it home Friday.

Refitted it Saturday (thanks to Driftwood and Digsit for the muscle),and took it for a test drive today.

Blimey wot a difference, it's like driving a new motor :(bigsmile): No clunking when taking up drive or backing off.I cannot praise Ashcrofts enough as they told me wot parts i needed and the service was excellent!!

Just thought i let you know

Neil.....

Dr Neil...

That's good nes for you... but I suspect bad for SWMBO! clunking on taking up drive is exactly her problem! Ah well... another one to add to the list!
