i am in serious danger(as i allways do) of selling my disco and buying a jeep
those wranglers look good modded
are they good off road

have a word with yourself [-X [-X :(biglaugh):

I thought my Cherry was good but Mr TJ just keeps amazing me what it does
I can't/won't diss Defenders n Disco's (Take the p tho  ) but I can't fault my TJ as an off roader/cool bunch of fun or even a reliable mode of transport
I could say I'd buy another tomorrow but thats just missing the point :D

The biggest thing that has put me off some of the non-LR vehicles in the past is the cost of spares / parts. LR parts have always been available cheaply and things do tend to get broken / worn out when you use them off road, plus there are plenty of used parts about just due to the number of vehicles in the UK.
Things have probably moved on a fair bit recently, and I know that there are more suppliers of non-genuine parts appearing for brands like Jeep which is bringing the price down.
I reckon you can make any 4x4 into a great off-roader with the right ideas... the cost is the only thing that you might need to check.

Was suprised by a Cherokee sports ability. Not quite up to my defender off road, but for a small suv was suprisingly good, better than a freelander!

the Disco is ok, but me cherry is a better all rounder
wranglers are v/good
but as muddy said parts are expensive, mind you they don't go wrong very often

Jeeps are way good, TJ's at Jeep-Fest 03 were unstoppable except for water. You need a bowser to carry the WD-40 to and from events :)
-
Long trips, reliability and reasonable standard off road ability, Gotta be the Paj, it's soo comfy and very capable, even as a LWB so long as you don;t want the rear bumper :)
Pure fun, and the Wrangler is great... parts do cost more, but so far (Touch wood) mines been really good (2 years hard use)
Cheap parts has to be the Landy, but and most of the local guys that have them agree... they spend a lot of time working on them... Saying that, they put a lift on their beasts for far less that I pay....
And a 90 will never look as good as a big Wrangler (No, I'm not talking about one of these crome covered jobbies).
Only bit of advice I would give (My Opinion), Buy a Left Hooker if you buy a Jeep, May be a bit of a pain to drive, but left hooker lifts are really cheap from the US, The right hooker market is still pretty small and expensive.
Incidentally, it was several Landy drivers and a Landy website that played a huge part in convincing me to buy the Jeep.

getting sold here

Move away from the Jeep forum
It'll hurt your pocket in the long run
-
I only have one thing to say................well almost.
Bolt on 8" lifts!!
Jeep parts can be got for reasonable money direct from the states, and if you think you can get some cool stuff for Lardrovers (sorry! )
check out 4 Wheel Drive Hardware and Quadratecs web sites!!! 8).
Oh and they can be waterproofed too.

I've never looked at a landy in my life :)
And I'd love to lay claim to Britney's baby but alas someone got there first

Get a Jeep - go on, you know you want to :D Mine was a sheer fluke! Went to get the Freelander fixed (again and again.....) then went for a little walk over the way to Chrysler Jeep AND fell in love with the Cherokee CRD LTD. Now, she's mine  Part ex'd the Freebie (God rest her undercarriage that dragged on every blasted lane!) and drive a Cherry. What a difference! Low box, higher off road even with standard tyres (which won't be for much longer) very comfortable on long journeys, wicked sound system (works fab with iPOD) and beefy 2.8L diesel with excellent MPG - I'M SO B****Y LUCKY AND HAPPY \:D/
Need to change user name from "ladyfreebie"
-
ladyfreeby
Glad you're enjoying your Jeep...reckon you need a trip to the birtys site :D
-
Yeah, come on over....
We promise to only take the P for a few months about you owning a Freebie....
At least you are better now though.... :)
-
well i love my cherokee, had it for a couple of years and it is very capable off road. I just find that under the hood is way too complicated. Just bought a suzuki SJ410 to smash around off road, knowing i can fix that easily myself.
-
I just swapped my Landy Hybrid V8 for a 1995 Wrangler as i needed a more road friendly car. I was Landy mad and was sad to se it go, but i must say the 40L jeep has really grown on me. I get many comments from people saying how cool it looks. Just purchased a lift kit and bigger tyres so it's gonna look even cooler. Bit bloody thirsty though !! I'm converted to the big Yank !! :-) (yes i said Yank !!)
