Post by: muddy_90 on July 11, 2006, 22:06:15
ive nearly finished fitting the TD in to my sereis, all that needs doing is the engine mount, wiring it up, fuel lines and putting the front end on.

Is it a hard job?
(fitted a tdi into a series)
I have thought about doing this too

its not that hard, all u have to do is cut the battery tray out as the injector pump will hit it and to cut the drivers side engine mount on the chassis and fab one up and the wiring and the fuel lines.

Looks good, is it just bolted straight to a standard series box?

what exactly are you doing for the engine mount?

i need to do the same for fitting my 200tdi, and i'm at a bit of a loss what to do.

can you take some photos of that engine mount if you've done it already?

Cheers
Ian

i've had a good look at it now i have the engine in, and i've decided on what i need to do

i'm gonna use the mount that was bolted to the 2.25 on the drivers side.
turn it upsidown, and its exactly the right size to just weld onto the chassis rail. does this sound like a good idea?

Post by: muddy_90 on July 17, 2006, 10:43:28
i was going to do that myself, i weld it on to a bit of plate first to spread the weight for when it came to welding it on the chassis but ive never got round to doing it and i thought that it might not get thought it mot with it mounted like that

i cant see that being any weaker than anything else i could construct.

the other thought i had was to us the remnants of the old mount the i cut off. its got to be strong enough as it held the old engine fine.

That looks brilliant! Spats aren't really to my taste, I'd only use them if I was fitting wider axles. I'd love to do something like that with my series, but my welding isn't really up to scratch at the mo'

spats r now black, gave the roll hoop and bumper a coat of hammerite and also painted the bits that r meant to be galvanized.

the reason way its a bit far back is coz it might have been a pain to bend the flange for the spat to bolt to because of the curve in the front off the wing

Title: nearly there
Post by: muddy_90 on September 22, 2006, 17:26:03
i used a rangie air filter and a 90 deg bend at the bottom of the pipe with  bit of flexy tube to the filter

Is it just me or does the front axle look very far forward in the arches?

It's just you. On leafers the axle arcs backwards under suspension compression.

Yes, but even so, it does look excessively far forward.  But otherwise everything looks fine. :)

Good work series3_mad.

my series 3 axle is forward like that seems its how they are
Title: nearly there
Post by: Rich_P on October 08, 2006, 21:23:41
Yes, I know the axle is located further forwards.  But with the wheel arch having been cut to fit the 90/110 wheel arch extension, it makes it look like the wheel/axle is very far forwards.  That was all.
