Well here it is, my lastest Landy. A Ford V6 series 3............................
She has a few problems, not least that the engine doesn't run, i had to shunt Her onto the drive with My 90 but the old Wreck aint as bad as some and will hopefully be on the road in a couple of months.
List of possible names so far are :-
S.O.S - Sack Of Spuds, My Dads contribution
Em - Expensive Mistake
Skip - She aint pretty
80p - Part of the numberplate and probably all She is worth, My Mums suggestion.
Any more ideas gratefully accepted (For names that is, not local scrappers )
-
Nice one jim =D> Let us know when the first thrashing round Whitworth is :D
-
or as i called it
Mud
Club
Landy
-
nice motor
-
Well yesterday we had a look at getting it to run right and we thought it was dead, BUT!!!!! It adjusted up lovely and runs very well, i would never have thought a crappy old Ford motor could sound that sweet 8)
I am a happy bunny!

yeah, those V6s with a decent exhaust sound good,
and with an overdrive and rangerover diffs, you can see the wrong side of 100mph!!!!!
stopping is interesting.
-
....and a Norfolk Regestration number to Boot....can't be bad....
-
looks ok to me
the ford essex 3l v6 is a good lump just cheak the fibre timing gear they always broke up when thashing the capri's around
-
It is a cologne but i think the timing gear thing still applies.......
-
2.8 then injection or carb
good but not as much low down grunt as 3.0 essex as on 2.8 power is higher up the rev range. you will just have hve to give it some then
-
yes but it does but the timing gear is better on 2.8 but speak to buton power the do steel ones. if it needs one
-
sorry ment burton power its my poor spelling
-
2.3 carb (Cortina?), wasn't sure it would be any good but the sound is sweet, i use the throttle like a switch anyway.......

The biggest problem we have on the forum is from members adjusting / *ing out words in order to get around the word filter...
If you feel you have to adjust words in order to post them all you are doing is increasing the workload for the moderators.
Its a Family Forum.
-
Okey Dokey, i'll use the filter in future Matey 8)
-
Back on track here is a really really poor quality sound file for the very very sad (http://www.bolt.com/LandRoverDefender90/audio) like Me who care what a V6 sounds like. I have no idea why it has gone all high pitched just because it is on the net but there ya go.......... :?
-
Your series looks great Jim
Whats your plans for it?
8)
-
The piccy is a good one, she is ugly as hell at the mo, the plan is to get her roadworthy as cheap as possible and use it for a little laning and as a second car when the ninety is broken. The plan was to use it as a play site motor but i would miss the coils too much i think.
-
if its got 2.3 in there go to a ford breakers or speak to a capri fan and put 2.8 in there in carbs is 135 bhp or 150 bhp on injection but the later will no like getting to wet :!:
-
nice one jim :D
dan
-
Cheers Dan :)
Cheers for the info but no point changing the engine Colin i'm told the 2.3 puts out 110bhp which is too much for a series anyway, it is running as sweet as a nut so i'll leave her be for now and see how she goes. I have next to no money tied up in her now and am on a very small budget....... 8)
If she is as numb as a boat horse i'll maybe have a rethink :)
-
Bit more progress, we drove her out of the drive and back, all seems ok, the brakes stick but so what..... Also painted the t/cab ready to fit and my mate made me some shiny footwells.

-
Nah, it will have to fade into the rest of the body :)
-
Looking good jim.
-
Fixed washers, bolted passenger floor in and fitted passenger seat, did oil and filter. Replaced water pump, adjusted doors so they stay shut and the old lass drove to the bottom of the street and back, needs shifter sorting as can only get 2 and D not 1st, damn she is low geared.......... 8) :D

hmm, didnt realise it was an auto! how is that bolted to the transer box? some sort of adapter i guess.
do you know what the auto box is out of?
-
Ford C3 auto box, used in a few old fords mated to series xfer box via conversion plate (maybe ashcroft but i aren't sure). I saw a Pinto powered auto on ebay a while ago and my guess is that had the same conversion but i have never heard of another.
-
There was an Ashcroft Ford Gearbox>Series T/box adapter on Ebay a while ago. Didn't make much either. It would let you use a Type 9 five speed manual as well as the C3 auto.
The same adaptor that does Ford V6>Series gearbox conversion can also be used for Pinto or Zetec conversion (the Zetec tempts me in a masochistic way.....)
-
Cheers for the info, i know next to nowt about its history etc :)
-
...damn she is low geared.......... 8) :D
Hey Jim,
We updated our 3 litre V6 to having Rangie diffs (low ratio / high geared), 3.54:1 rather than the standard 4.7:1. Makes a hell of a difference, the gearing is now about right, it adds about 25% to the gearing, course your speedo will be well out if you do it. Not sure about off-road as not been off-road with these diffs yet.
Rob.

they dont look too wide to me
-
They stick proud of the wheelarch and are too close to the front......
-
Maybe the tyres would fit with a wheel rim with less offset?? :? still looks good though

They are the playing out set for my 90, they are for sale as i want something that will fit both Landys....... Only put them on 'cos the 7.50's are sold.........
