Title: Winches
Post by: rustprooflandyracer on September 12, 2005, 14:49:53
Would you be able to mount a winch to a series 3? If so would you require a special bumper as on the defenders? would you be able to fit one to a series? recommendations would be grateful for both winches and fitting.

Before I bought my series 3, there'd been a winch on it. It basically used a "winch plate" which was bolted to the chassis between the wings - in front of the in-set grill, if you see what I mean. The piece of metal (like an apron) had to be removed to create enough space, but it definately wasn't a different bumper.

I think the winch / plate combination was bought from David Bowyer, but I'm not sure.

Hope this helps

Ben

Winch sits very nicely on top of the chassis members and bumper in front of the grill, but as has been said it needs a winch plate which replaces the apron in front of the grill. The series 3 is ideal if you want to run the winch on a power take off from the engine. Type 'capstan winch' into the image search on Google and you'll find some examples of how they fit.
