Title: 4.2 tappet clearances

Hi, I'm new to the forum hello to one and all
i have just brought a 1993 Diesel 4.2 patrol GR SLX safari ,and the tappets are a like noisey i have ordered a workshop manual but it has'nt turned up yet.
I was just wondering if anyone would have the valve clearances to hand ??

hi and welcome mate,

valve clearances, stem to guide?

inlet: 0.023 to 0.053mm

exhaust: 0.04 to 0.07mm

Remember that with some of the Nissan Diesel engines that they are Chain drive and this tends to rattle some times.

no chains on patrol engines, well not ones i've dealt with anyway.
The TD42 in question here is gear driven,
the RB30 petrol and my 2.8 TD are belt driven,
not sure on the ZD30? :undecided:

Yep i think you are right, i have been digging and its the 2.7 TDI's that are chain drive.

another update, think this is what you wanted

valve clearance ( when hot)

0.35mm
