Hiya, I was told no when I asked LR. The early axles can be ground down a little to make them fit but you can get into serious trouble if they don't full fit to the hub, they then crack and fall off when you're doing 60 :-o . Mines a 85 but I stuck a 300tdi rear on. The Compotive version fits all though.

Freestyle alloys do not fit early fronts or drum-braked rear axles without modification and even if you do grind away some metal, the hub-caps will still stick through the centres. Firestyles will fit early axles but you still have the issue of the hub-caps (extended caps are available but look pants in my humble opinion).
The only way to make them fit properly is to fit spacers as this solves all the issues but make sure you have informed your insurance company about both the wheels and the spacers as both are modifications and your premium may be increased accordingly.
