Title: Which Mud Terrain Tyres ?
Post by: Fat Bloke on February 14, 2005, 21:18:14
Hi All,
I am ready to buy some mud tyres and have read various reports now on different types and just wanted some general feedback about them please.

I was almost set on grizzly claws or bronco rough riders but have now seen COLWAY M/T's and GREENWAY CHACO's.The main factor is budget as i have dipped into the pot and purchased a procomp 2" lift kit and now only have about £250 left for tyres (x 4) to fit on some 16" steel 8 spokes i have already. Also what do you think about tyre size with the Procomp lift fitted.
Thanks for your co-operation.

I've fitted 235x85's on the bobtail, That's on a 2'' lift,
Had to trim the arches and adjust the lockstops..

Very happy and got them for a good price from Nene Valley tyres.

Eyup FB

Was gonna fit Colways to my defender until someone offered me a good deal on nearly new Grizzly's.

Can't fault the grizzly's off road - brilliant grip, no comparison to the previous AT's

But - on road - they must be the noisiest tyres on this earth, slowing down for a junction I keep thinking I've broke mi engine   :?   -  the noise factor is worth noting depending on your use on / off road etc

Mate of mine has Colways on a Zuki, on road noise doesn't seem to be much of an issue, mindyou it probably only weighs about 50kg wet through

I was thinking of these people for Colway's, seemed about the best deal I could find at the time

Tyre prices seem good, my pal got his tyres there, say's good service, dont know if they do wheels though

Hope this helps and don't just confuse you some more

Thanks Dave,
Checked the first site and they are doing 235/85/16 on new rims for £248 which is not bad although i have rims ! suppose i could bang em on ebay.

The 2nd site is worth a look as they are not VAT registered yet so you don't pay any on top. Worked out about £200 for a set of colway MT's delivered !

I had a set of 235/70R16 greenway Macho (made by colway) from Buxton 4x4, fitted, balanced (about £10 in lead!) with a couple of new valves, £209.

Mega pleased with them, no probs in mud and when I got stuck in the peaks I was sat on the diff!, nowt could have saved me.
The're ok on the road, a litle noisy buy manageable up to the speed limit.  I won't tow with them on or carry a full complement of passengers and they are already showing signs of wear (<1000 miles!).

sowden tyres is the same company as tyres direct, both companies advertise these tyres but when you ring they have always sold the last set on tuesday and the next delivery is in two weeks. believe me i have been trying for a month and lost patience and went to weardales.

i got 235 85 16's greenway macho's, same as amazons from bronco's.

Black star Recips. Absolutely fantastic tyres.

Went through some VERY gloopy mud the other day and DIDN'T get stuck.

But these are £280
