Title: 109 questions
Post by: stratie on April 21, 2010, 08:59:10
Hi guy's, it's been along time, hope you are all well.
Just picked up a 24 volt 109 ragtop in white. It's been dry stored for year's, so is in pretty good nick.
Assuming it's the same colour now as it was when it came out of the MOD.....why is it painted in white?
Also, why would it be 24V....i cant see any thing that points to it being FFR.
I'll get some more info and picture's up at some point today.
Cheer's.

Might it have been involved with UN-backed peacekeeping operations of some sort? That would explain the colour.

As for the 24v, who knows. Maybe it was ordered with 24v electrics for a specific role other than FFR? It does occur to me that if you were escorting aid convoys it might be handy to have a vehicle with the ability to jump-start 24v HGVs?

24v would have been because everything else was. It's also more reliable (lower current draw) than 12v.

Agreed & the white paint was when we went from the UN Mission (White Paint) to IFOR (Implementation Force)  :)

Cheer's fella's  :D
The whole thing is painted in white...bumpers and every thing...all though i've had a scratch about, and you can see green paint under the white.
Also there is some radio type looking dial's inbetween the two front seat's  (dont know how i missed them) The motor is a five bearing jobby, and run's really sweet.
I need to sort the hand brake out, and bang a new set of tyres on the old girl and then i reckon she should do the MOT with out any other hassle.
The MOD reg plate is.....67HG34....dont know if any of you guy's can shed any light on that??
I will try and get some pics today.
Also the rear axle look's odd.....could it be a salisbury axle??

Speak to the Ex Military Land Rover Association (EMLRA) they may be able to shed some light on it, they will certainly be able to point you to the RLC Museum, who keep all the records

Looks nice.  If it's a series and not long demobbed then it's been in reserve for a while.  Quite possibly arctic stock so it's snow camoflage.  I read somewhere that the last MOD reserve where winter weather vehicles form northern Europe.
