Title: 3" shackle lift
Post by: gate78 on October 25, 2005, 13:04:50
Just put a 3" shackle lift on my zuki, and am wondering ir anybody else has done this! The steering seems wierd, cant really explain it! drives ok still, ive net tested it properly yet. However straight ahead seems to be about 1/8th of a turn of the steering wheel, but it was in the centre before! like somebody moved the wheel! do i need to tweak the mod a bit?

anyway i heard they were a bit wierd when lifted like this, but its a cheap lift before i get some bigger tyres.

any input welcome....

sorry attachments wont work for some reason, ill post some pics in my gallery soon..

the distance between the steering box and the axle is now longer, hence longer steering arm needed - or adjust the current one to suit - or just unbolt steering wheel and straighten it up - mines 3/4 of the way round....I just havnt got round to adjusting it!

phew! as long as i aint cocked anything up. might have a look at the steering arm then, i assume it isnt under any strain. its gunna take some getting used to either way.

cheers Gary

Yep you either buy some lifted springs or a body lift

longer shackles will allways upset the handling, you might have to put a damper on the steering.

What about putting axle under the strings.

At the risk of being a little pedantic, isn't Suzuki Jeep an oxymoron?

Best mod I did to mine when on leaves was to create and fit a panhard rod to the front. Basically, a bar from steering box side of chassis, down to pass side of front axle, following the lines of the steering idler arm as close as possible. Needs a bit of welding and imagination, but easily do-able.
Made mine steer like a sports car even with 3 inch over shackles and lifted spring kit from LA Supertrux.

Better still, throw it all away and coil spring it. :D
Youll never look back

What about land rover series 3 shackels put on a suzuki jeep 410. How much is it for 3 inch lift on it. :D

well tyhe 3" lift was cool, but ive just bent a leaf spring, so its going for a SPOA next week. That means there might be some 3" shackles going on ebay soon, i feel 5" from SPOA and the 3" shackle is a bit too high! probably roll too easily.

Rich

Steady on, dude!  You've only had your Zook 5 minutes, and it's already starting to put mine to shame.

Lack of stability caused by extra height is easily fixed with spacers or turned rims.   :D

hey Pete!  Yeah, i dont like waiting for things! figured i might as well get on eith it. I think ive blown my budget for a while, so no offset rims or spacers anytime soon (maybe). My new 195/80/15 Macho Tyres look cool though, and i wanna play!!
