Title: Anyone know owt about Transits?
Post by: dave_2A_2.25Turbo on July 14, 2009, 22:15:18
Having acquired a 2.5D Transit engine - referred to as a DTI - I need a new starter for it.  It's one of the biggest starters I've seen not on a JCB or a Wagon!
As  i don't know the year or original Reg, eveyone looks blank.  The old one is a lucas unit, with 54246461 on one of the castings.  Anyone know the one I mean?  Local place has suggested DRS 0950 but can't guarantee it's right.

Err, I don't know that much but being a Ford if you can find the engine number it should have been common to the chassis number and therefor tell you the year and month of manufacture.

Why not just get the current one re-conned?

I too would recomend the recon route. Had mine done a few months ago
picked it up next day looking like new.  £34, a hell of a lot cheaper than a
new one, and works perfectly.

That's a good point and TBH I'd be very surprised if the guys at my local reconditioners couldn't tell you what vehicle is was for.

all the id numbers you need for the van should be stamped on the drivers door
