I have just done the head gasket on the v8 & since then it has been a right pig to get it to start. Once it finally starts it runs sweet but i am trying to find out why i am having these problems with starting. Would appreciate any information.
Regards
Matt.

is it all the time when starting or just when cold/hot?

I would say it is everytime i start it up. What you got in mind??

You may have disturbed the power feed from the starter to the coil. It bypasses the ballast resistor to give full available power to the coil whilst cranking.

When you say pig to start do you mean slow cranking or spins for ages without firing?

It spins for ages with out firing. I am finding it worst in the mornings.

Mines just started to do that as well, although it tries to fire but just won't catch. Seems worse on damper mornings. Haven't had time to look at mine yet. Maybe the electrics need a good dose of WD-40?

Here's a thing. If my battery is a bad low then Blue will spin fine but the electronic ignition will not fire. I've fitted a split charge system now becasue it was standing unused for long periods, I used a leisure battery for the electrics and a Varta for the starter.
Mint :D
Otherwise check that the fuel pump is "purging" when you first turn on the ignition, check also the engine temperature sensors is working, all the electrics on the EFi are explained thoroughly enough in the Haynes manual.
Also check the engine earth strap near the alternator which you probably had to remove?
Did you disturb the dizzy (timing)?

Got around to sorting it the other day. Took all the electrical connectors apart (fuel and ignition), WD40'ed them then filled with petrolium jelly. Starts first turn now! :D

I know the 3.9 is 6 without cats and 4 with, but even at 8 it should start ok. The 4.2 ran at 10 :-.
