Title: 2.25 petrol S3
Post by: discowoman on September 03, 2008, 17:11:12
Ok been looking at getting another S3 - ben offered a Y plate S3 with the 2.25 petrol - never owned one with a petrol lump in, so what are they like on fuel, and what can be done to improve the mpg? also how hard is the conversion to 2.25 diesel or 2.5 n/a ? ( including a list of parts if poss - LOL)
also being a later S3 will It have some 'crossover' parts from a 90 fitted? also what was the quality like on the later ones????
(thinner steel - etc)
Much thanks

Last of the Series 3s had er... not so good chassis quality/protection so many of them have rotted away.  The 2.25 Petrol will usually return between 18 and 22 mpg, but if it's not maintained (i.e. setting timing, points, gaps etc) then the fuel consumption can go through the roof with gutless performance.

The last of the Series 3s as you think do utilise some parts from the very early One Ten production, crossover period.  Or rather I should say, the early One Tens used parts from the Series 3 production.
