4 litre 6 cylinder york diesel and everything you'll need barring cross member modification.
Is still in vehicle so can be seen running

Don't know on mileage.
Engine fired up second turn after being under a sheet for 4yrs
It's in a series i've bought for spares and i will be putting what I don't use on e bay including this engine and adaptor plate.
The engine is free revving and very torquey.
Trailer would be needed for either lump & plate or i might leave it on the chassis once i've stripped it.
No there's no docs it was purely off road use

That sounds like a tractor or marine engine to me.

Nice idea, loads of power but check the rev range as if i am right it will probably only rev to 2500 rpm.

It's from an A series originally and has a far greater rev range than my diesel series

I can only liken the sound to that of a series 3 Scania V8 it really does rumble.

6 pot yorkie diesel, nice lump, but has a reputation for starting "funnies" when cold.  It'll also have enough torque to mince a SIII gearbox rather nicely.  A better (but still not ideal) box, would be a SIIA (crash 1st and 2nd) as they are about the strongest series box made.  But not easy to find in good nick.  As someone else said, not the fastest reving motor either, at best only about the same as the 2 1/4 lump, on a good day.  It's also damed heavy!

Other engine choice, and keeping it Solihull, would be a 200 or 300TDi.  Not quite nutz and boltz only fit, but not far off, and despite what people say, you can fit an X Disco 200TDi into a Series, so long as you take great care with the exhaust, and turbo pipe routing.  There are even exhaust downpipe kits about just for that mod....   Just make sure if you buy a "working" engine, you see it running, and started from cold, or budget for a rebuild.

The Yorkie is a fair to good lump, but long in the tooth these days, and spares will be drying up (how many Ford A series trucks do you see still running about?)  Where as even the 200TDi has good spares support, though heads are pricy if you ever need one.  The 300TDi if you can get one at a good price, is almost still a current engine, availability wise.  If you go the 300 route, and it's an early one, make sure it's had the cam-belt mod done.  Fairly obvious if it's not, when you get to the cam-belt, if it's worn away on one side, it needs the mod, virtualy the entire front of the engine is changed.  The 200 did not suffer that problem.

Whatever you do, have fun doing it, and driving it afterwards...

SIII coiler, 200TDi (X Disco!)  LT77/LT230 etc.

As I already have the york, in a series 2, with a good gearbox i think i'll be sticking with it if i don't break for spares but thanks for the info

Regards

P.S. Revs far better than the series 3 diesel i have on the road
