Greetings all..... I've finally managed to scrape together enough funds for a lift kit for my Disco (hoping for a bargain at the Peterborough LR show).
A quick question, though - the funds won't stretch to new, bigger tyres, so will my 235/70's look like skate-board wheels with a lift? Is anyone out there still running standard tyres on a lifted Disco? Any pics?
Cheers

I'm getting mine done tomorrow (Britpart +2" with OME shocks) and I'm running 235/70/16's with BF Goodrich A/T's.
I'm hoping it will not have the roller skate look to it, but if I get chance will take some pics tomorrow and post them up.
Cheers

There is a pic of mine here www.colnhurst.co.uk/Discovery/photopages/2005/2005-07-23/images/langdale%20(197).JPG that shows a lifted D2 with 235/70R16 wheels.
IMHO I thought they looked a bit daft, so a month after that pic was taken I upgraded to to 265/75R16's

im not even going to post a piccy of mine, i had some 30 inch at's on alloys and with the cutaway arches it looked extremely silly.
-
I'm on a similare setup with a RRC, 2" britpart springs and 205r16 tyres.
Its not the most asthetic setup, but i have no problems living with it day to day, it certainly isn't 'skateboard'. Putting the 225/75r26 mud terrains on it does improve the looks, but to be honest when your driving the car looks don't make any difference.
-
Putting the 225/75r26 mud terrains
and only a 2" lift you must have cut the arches a bit
lol
-
Yeah, my 200tdi looked a bit odd with a lift but normal tyres. I'd change the rubber as well if I were you.
-
Trouble is, when the cash is a bit tight you have to do the lift before you can do the rubber :(
You'll just have to live with the embarrassment until you can get new tyres

Thing is the sizes are only nominal. Stand my mate's 235/70 r16 amazons next to my 235/85 r16 BFG MT and there is leass than an inch in it anyway, the Amazons are remoulds and have gained a little in size.
I'd think 205s are a bit skinny but 235/70 doesn't look too bad (who cares anyway) and I still use them for on-road work. Some is knocking about in my galery I think.

Looks loads better and i now have some clearance under my QT diff guards.
:D

i now have some clearance under my QT diff guards.
:D
And that's the important bit, the big tyres are for better clearance more than better looks, so I'd fit the kit.....
........ live with it while you are saving up......
........ and then get the tyres too :D
But fit the kit now, the extra height will help off-road even without the tyres, it will increase your angle of attack, departure and breakover, as well as saving it from a few scrapes.
-
Absolutely, though I think that Disco looked OK on 235/70s anyway.
-
Hi there, don't worry about the looks. It's the clearance below the diffs that matter.
Got to say though, 235x85 look a peach :D
-
it will look a bit "odd" but I would still fit the lift then gives you something to save for - some nice new boots.
Plus you can try the "well it looks stupid I need new wheels and tires line" on SWMBO

Click to enlarge. Couple of more photo's here (http://www.horness.com/discovery/photos.htm).
All fitted. +2" Britpart yellow springs fitted with Old Man Emu Nitro Gas shocks all round.
Tyres are 235/70/16 BF Goodrich A/T's.
No other changes (yet  )

Thanks all for the pics - I don't think it looks as daft as I thought it would - I can definitely live with the standard tyres for a while (until I can find a Def90 LT230 to go with 235/85's!!!) :D

That looks cool, I'd leave it alone. 235/85s can look a bit too big.
