Title: viscous fan

just a quickie my fans running quite slow even at higher revs and warmed up is there any way of locking it up so it spins faster till i can get a replacement cheers  jo.

You could try cable ties or using wire to "lock" the blades to the hub bit.


I've also heard of people drilling through the hub and forcing in a self tapper or 2, to lock the unit up.

Are you having temperature problems? Usually the 200 is a very cool engine anyway. I've run mine for years without one and not had any problems with excess heat, like many other 200 owners. In fact, there is a fuel saving to be had as well. Obviously it's not something to do on a whim and I wouldn't suggest you trust the gauge to tell you the real temperature anyway. Also not if you tow or are going somewhere hot! Otherwise, though, go for a good run armed with the fan, spanner and a temperature probe to check out if you need it anyway.

we have run ours with out one now for a year with no probs running roud town the thermostat dont even open on a run it opens and temps coll back down also had no probs when towing the caravan gets to just above when thermostat opens when going up long hills i do have a elec fan on switch as back up but i only switch it on now and then to see if it still works
ps ours has 200tdi from a disco

cheers guys might just leave it as is then not getting over hot. when pulling heavy loads it stays around the 70 degrees mark. so will see how it goes.   jo

Same here, no fan with no probs, have removed the cowel and everything...makes it easier to wash the rad out after playing too
