Title: 2.5 diesel to what TDI?
Post by: MuckingFuddy on April 27, 2005, 14:52:45
I have a gutless 2.5 n/a diesel in my 90 at the moment & im told that a cheap alternative to a 200/300TDI is the 2.8 TDI Dihatsu 4track engine. what do you think of this conversion or could you suggest any alternatives?

I've heard that the 2.8 Isuzu trooper lump is very good. I know a few people running this engine and they all sing its praises. Most stick and intercooler on it and play with the fuelling. Good for about 180 bhp and very cheap to get hold of. It is also such a compact engine, about half the size of a TDI. They certainly fly along when they have been tweeked.

I have a 300 in mine, if it ever goes I will replace it with one of these.

The Isuzu engine is nice...  biggest problem you have is that you need a conversion kit and unless you can find one cheap, then the cost of the engine and conversion puts you into Tdi money.   And whilst the Isuzu engine is possibly a bit better, the Tdi is a Land Rover engine, so putting it all together and getting spares is nice and simple.

Conversion plates can be found at http://www.engineconversions.co.uk/landrover.html.

Most of the people that I know have spent £100-300 on a whole trooper with the engine in it.

The reason i would like to fit it is that I could move the rad and intercooler back and stick my 8274 right back in the area taken up by them.

Also, like i said, alot of power available from them, and if you do knacker it, cheap to replace once you have shelled out on the conversion plate first time round :D
