im looking at making my own defender fuel tank to go in the rear but has anyone on here made there own tank? anyone know what size holes i would need to drill in the top for pipes and filler cap etc...
-
whats your reasoning for want ing to loose all your load space?
-
just from previous experience of busting tanks even with tank guards fitted but i was think of putting the tank right upto the back of the front seats then putting a bench seat over it for off road use only just so my mates can come
-
so anyone fabricated their own?
-
I think its more of a specialist thing, as it needs to be fuel tight & pressure tested... i certainley wouldnt fancy having a leek on a hot day, or repairing a fuel tank thats had fuel in it!
-
i think it would be alright lol i work as a fabrication engineer anyway and can get it tested etc

How about somehow mounting the original tank in the back then box it in :-k that way all the pipes will fit straight away to the tank.
-
yeh have done this previously but the tanks are flat on the bottom so i wanted to fabricate one thats a perfect fit
-
made a ally one for the back of my comp truck, but that houses a td5 pump
-
thats what i was thinking of doing mate, does the 90 use an external pump or internal?
-
If your 90 is a tdi then all it has and needs is a dip pipe and return pipe.
And iirc the pipes unscrew off the tank any way.
You dont need and kind of fuel pump unless your running td5 or v8

Ebay Item number: 230540438616
If your fitting it inside, its also worth putting some baffles in to stop it sloshing around too much!
-
im running a 200tdi if that helps
-
you thought about a disco one under the back thats what im thinking of doing as i am miffed on how little a standard 90 one holds as i do lot of long distance work, aswell as keeping the standard 90 one
-
how much bigger are the disco tanks?
