Title: Changing ratios in an LT230
Post by: V8MoneyPit on October 11, 2007, 13:57:56
Is this a difficult job? What I mean is, are there any special tools needed or awkward things like that?

I assume all the bearings and shafts are the same. I would just need the relevant gears and shims to set up end floats?

Hi Steve,

I have some workshop manuals on CD for the transfer boxes, it states in it that you need special tool but after looking at the pics they dont look that special to me and can prob be made quite easy.
Is it a LT230 Q, R or T do you know as I have manuals for all 3.

If you want me to email them over PM me.

Thanks

Steve

Thanks for that. I have the Heritage CD.... haven't opened it yet though   I'll have a read through this evening.

If the special tools are just drifts and pullers, something can usually be made to work as you suggest.

I don't know what version the box is.

Just checked all 3 manuals and the tools are all pullers and drifts and also a pin spanner, looks like a "C" spanner but with pins sticking out of the side. This is to hold the output shaft wile undoing the nut.
Also requires heating something up to get back in but I only had a quick glance at it.
Good luck, Let us know how it all goes?

Steve

Just what ratios are you changing to/from? I take it your not just changing them to typical factory ratios or you would have just got a different transphere box.

I was looking at a brand new one, but it's a 1.2:1 and I need a 1.4:1.
