Title: strange rattling noise from transmission I think
Post by: gt.jacko on April 23, 2007, 21:07:50
Hi can anybody shed some light on this, I have a rattling noise from the transmission area it almost sounds like a rattling bracket on the exhaust but it,s not that, it starts at about 30mph and gets louder up to about 50 mph then it seems to stay constant, it does n,t matter what gear you are in or you can even put it in neutral and coast and the noise does n,t change dipping the clutch make no difference either the transmission is all working ok oil levels all ok so  I am a bit puzzled. The engine and box where in another vehicle which i had driven and this noise was not there then in fact I thought the drive train was very good for a land rover which is why I used it in my rebuild project, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

I had a strange rattle on mine and I couldn't find mine. One day I had to take the exhaust front pipe off for another job, and found one side of the bracket had sheared right down the bottom where you can't see. The exhaust was still secure when pushed and pulled and I could never replicate it statically, clamped it down and it all stopped.
