Title: disco auto box fitting
Post by: markyb on December 13, 2007, 11:11:54
What will i need to fit an autobox to my manual 200tdi disco.

Ive seen  a couple of cheap boxes and mine is going to need a clutch and box before long

if i can get a box with gearstick and pick up the right surround.

will i need a different flywheel. etc?

I have the kit here to do on mine, depending on the vehicle, what about the kick down mechanism, pedal box, as in lack of clutch pedal needed, also an oil cooler is among the bits I have got with mine, just tring to seperate the bits in my mind as mine is an engine and box swap when it gets done

Trying to think what else, dont forget you will be removing clutch and flywheel, so does your starter match up with an auto ring gear, also the torque convertor needs to be with the box

some LPG injection to make up for the loss of speed :-)

The pedal box is the same although the brake pedal is bigger, but you can leave than for now and remove the clutch in yours.

The torque converter bolts to a drive plate, on the V8 there's also an adapter which is a sod to remove and you'll need to drift out the spigot bearing.

There shifter is different as is the transfer box lever, there's 2 oil coolers, some manuals had one but youy probably don't have the one in the radiator.

I'm not sure the starters are different though, mine has an auto starter and I put the engine in a manual.

If it's a V8 it'll also need the ECU connecting up.

Whcih reminds me, you need to find the inhibitor wiring and reverse switch.

I remember recently a 300 tdi starter of an auto fitted a manual 300 ok, so it should not be a problem, forgot about the conversion plate, as mine is still bolted together in one big lump

You need to find someone who has actually done it, my method is to drop the whole 300 and auto in. as one lump
