Title: Windscreen washer jets
Post by: Green Machine on July 17, 2005, 19:46:00: I want to improve the Windscreen washer jets on my 200 disco :lol:
they seem a bit limp :oops:
I know on some newer cars they have a fan type nozzle and was considering trying to adapt a couple to fit.
Trouble is, I dont know of any manufacturer that actually fits them as standard, So if anyone knows of anyone id be gratefull.

Post by: hobbit on July 17, 2005, 20:23:33: Got mine rigged up with a 3 nozzle jet on each wiper arm, running pipes down intothe body and y piece hooled into the original hoses, so get 3 per side jet wise, plus the original washer jet as well, bout washes the screen away :wink:

You can get the kit from vehicle wiring products,, need a bit of jiggling to get them to fit the arms thats all

Post by: Henry Webster on July 17, 2005, 21:01:07: The best solution, as used by many off road racers is to use the headlamp washer set up - including pump, from a Discovery or Range Rover. These are hugely powerful and displace alot of water.

You can just about fit them in the scuttle of a discovery - I have them on the racer.

The only thing is that you have to modify the arms a bit to fit properly, and have to move them down a bit when you have to change the wiper blades

There are various kits that wrap your washer hose round a hot pipe to warm the water, but on some models of cars (I used to have a Vauxhall Carlton - don't laugh!) there are heating elements built into the jet, these will simply connect to the washer pump wiring and give you 'hot' water - you can see the steam come off them.

I fitted Carlton jets to a ford I had later and it was quite simple (two wires and the push on hose), I'm tempted to do this now to my Discovery but I need to find a scrapyears with some in first.

The water comes out hot enough to melt ice and snow, they don't freexe in winter, they clear bugs a lot better, but I've never heard of the water craking a windscreen in the freezing cold - I once had to dig my car out of the snow on my drive (where it had drifted) and the washer jets worked fine and ceared not only the windscreen but melted all the now above it also!

I would definately recommend them, if you want more water, then fit a higher power pump as already suggested, and / or more washer jets - but make these jets heated, you won't look back.

Youcan prob source hose locally, and use small cable ties to fasten the hose to the arms, 2x y joints for the hoses then you can keep the original jets as well.

They do have black rubber hose instock, although no reason why not get the clear stuff, just couldn't get any locally at the time

Piece of cake, just make sure you get enough hose, plan the route and measure properly

Post by: Xtremeteam on July 18, 2005, 23:03:01: ive got brava/bravo washer jets cable tied to the windscreen arms on the racer & they spray water fairly well infront o the wiper blades,just empties the washer bottle quick lol,i used the hose u get from an aquarium place to run from the pump to the arms & it only cost bout Ã‚Â£3 for the complete set up

That sounds ideal, they might have the same mountings, and hence less effort to fit - do you know which RR's have them?
