Only for the evening/night mind.
SWMBO is working down there & due to her appointment schedule is stopping overnight.
Then she's off to Paris to the architects office on Friday for the day , so....... I've got to take her Passport down & since she's got a double room I'm stopping. I might as well, the bidder is paying :D
And I thought she'd need the passport for Leicester anyway, as it's 'down south'
Not too sure where we'll be, as she's meeting me just off junction 21, so keep your eyes peeled for 'S50 RAT' around the city centre & suburbs.
Leaving Yorkshire about 17:00, arriving 18:30 - 19:00?? (traffic dependant)
Might have a look around the centre in the morning?
I know it's short notice for all the 'Mud-Club spotters' out there to try & catch me, but she only told about 14:00 whilst I was over in Sherburn-in-Elmet

Richard
watch out that you dont get a nosebleed venturing that far south!

Once SHMBO has left the country you could ask Landybabe to Escort you around the Sights of leicester If there are any
Only trouble is, it failed it's MOT (the Escort not Landybabe) so she's prowling the streets of Leicester in her old rangie.
-
Hissy..
Unfortunately there aren't any sights in Leicester!!
Btm..
If you see a little lady in a big rangie waving at you....
Don't panic, It's only me :)
P.s. Nothing wrong with Leicester that demolition wouldn't fix :!:

I wish I'd known  . An attractive female native guide :D

No, just the wifes spare English to Leicester-ese phrase book
It took me just over 2 hours to get there from leaving home at about 16:40 & leaving the M1 at 18:45.
I'm glad I wasn't heading north, as there was an horrendous queue on the M1 from about jct29. I reckon it was over 10miles
There's some deep 'Tram-Lines' near jct 30 from the trucks in lane 1!
I also saw a 50th Anniversary 3-door FreeLander near here
I met her in the ASDA car-park at Fosse Park, then followed her along Aylestone Way(?) into the centre.
We passed the Royal Infirmary (one of her projects*), the rather grand looking railway station, the f**tball ground & pulled into the NCP next to the Holiday Inn (St Nicholas Circle)
This was to be our destination for the night, courtesy of Laing Construction (the bidders  )
We had a very convivial 3-course dinner & a 7th floor room over looking a ruined Church
There was an alarm call at 04:00.
I'm used to that time of the morning, she isn't
Room service at 04:15 with a decent continental breakfast.
Booked out at 04:50, spotted a very nice Tuscan (http://community.webshots.com/photo/344259581/439992891TseuIK) in the multi-story (even allowing for its colour  )
As I followed her out of the centre (on the Hinckley road), I spotted a very nice (& surprising) relic of the past opposite the Reg Vardy (Alfa?/Audi?) dealer
Can anyone photograph this jettied house for me please?, as it was too dark. It looks similar to The Black Swan (http://community.webshots.com/photo/136544269/139089414cPTSBp) in Wakefield
Then she disappeared towards East Midlands airport for a flight to Charles deGaulle, whilst I settled into my 55-60mph trip home. I arrived outside at 07:05
Not a bad evening, to say I was simply a courier  I wonder if I can claim my mileage back on her expenses, as she was going to arrange an actual courier
* Along with the General Hospital & Glenfields. Plus an associated build at Market Harborough)

Crikey - that brings back memories - I was at "Polyversity" about 180 degrees from your photo...
Many a time I was late for lectures and had to park my rather shambolic bright orange Vauxhall Chevette in St. Nick's Circle and make a run for it!
The queue on the M1 north last night also affected the A38, and the A61 past Alfreton. It was car park tickets for quite a while. Local knowledge certainly helped as I scooted along the back roads and avoided it. I knew I listened to local radio for a reason 8)
Cheers
Ben

Julie is originally from Leic...Leic..... no, can't bring myself to say it.
She hates the placer, would gladly see it razed to the ground.

Well, Joanne is planning to rebuild/improve parts of it :)
What's with the steel flowers I saw on one roundabout somewhere?, near a snooker club in an old (slightly 'Art-Deco') cinema

Didn't see you, but it was early morning & I was too busy trying not to lose her last night
P.s. Nothing wrong with Leicester that demolition wouldn't fix :!:
From what I saw of some bits, it's already underway

I can never, ever, find a valid reason to listen to the Alan Partridge clones, but you found one for yourself.
It's annoying when you get their inane gibberish giving the traffic reports & it blanks out Terry Wogan, or Johnnie Walker
And they don't turn the 'over-ride' off for a couple of minutes

over looking a ruined Church
Actually, your picture is of the remains of Roman Baths: http://www.leicestermuseums.ac.uk/museums/museframe.html

LandyBabe sez she didn't see you in Leicester.
If she was cruisin' in the Rangie, Her nose would have been stuck up so
far there'd av bin an ECLIPSE :(biggrin): :(biggrin):
Cheers Andy :-# :-# :-# :-#

So even the Romans left Leicester
I considered the possiblity of it being Roman, but with the Church remains being there....
'Hissy'
That's a pity. it would have been nice to see a friendly face

Damn!
I wish I'd known, I'd liked to have seen the Guild-Hall, Wygstones House & Abbey Pumping Station
Two appeal to my architectural interests & the other to that & my liking for industrial heritage.
I might have to come down again, next time my days off coincide with one of her visitations.
I think she's down at least twice a week for the next month, so I might make suitable arrangements one day?
Not going to France with her though, too many French   (plus my passport expired in 2003)

Be sure to let us know when your coming down.
We could take you to Palmers Garden Centre for Tea and Cream Scones Mmmmmm
Better not make it pension day cos all the old folk will get in and get the scones first
I always meet LandyBabe there as it's on the outskirts and i feel quite safe there
-
Glad to hear you survived the safari down south without any mishaps
Hissy thinks it's just my nose in the air but actually everything is about two foot higher than when I'm driving the escort (aka the Skateboard!)
I'm so busy looking at everything I can't normally see, like over hedges & stuff that I don't see what's right in front of me sometimes!!
Invite to Palmers nice idea....Some of the nicest scones around!!
Best to stick to the outskirts, even I don't venture into the centre alone :!:

So....... can I take it we were in the centre at the Holiday Inn?There IS a red circle there! (http://uk.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?client=public&X=458000.999999146&Y=304500.902154725&width=500&height=300&gride=458199.999999146&gridn=304399.902154725&srec=0&coordsys=gb&db=grid&addr1=&addr2=&addr3=&pc=&advanced=&local=&localinfosel=&kw=&inmap=&table=&ovtype=&zm=1&scale=25000)
Thanks for the invite, but as I stated, I don't know when it will be, I'll try to give advance warning next time.
It gives you all time to get the burning torches & pitch-forks in order to repel us northerners
-
SWMBO is going down again tomorrow & overnighting, but I'm not.
So maybe next time
-
She's down for 2 days next week, having spent Monday in Hinckley.
Have to check which days & what my shifts are, as I agreed to work 2 of my 3days off next week
I might grace you with my presence.
I'll be the quiet unassuming northerner in the middle of Leicester saying;
"Bi Eck!" & singing 'On Ilka Moor Baht 'At' (http://www.laufman.org/SongsTunes/IlkleyMoor.htm)
