Depends on the year I think as the dashes were different.

Last one I took out was when I dismantled a vehicle....  so that was easy 8-)

Having spoken to a bloke in a pub....

Disconnect the two pipes at the back of the heater unit and push them into the engine bay, then the heater unit should be quite easy to get into the passenger footwell without removing the complete dashboard.

Have fun

Hi Mercian, if it's a late classic then the Dash has to be stripped, there's no other way. Also when you have the heater out, check the matrix is o/k. These can give problems, if you need to purchase a replacement then take some measurements, the size doe's matter. there are several different sizes so do take time to check, don't just order or you may end up with wrong size replacement unit. My rangie is a 93 tdi and has a disco heater unit !! so do check. BAZZ.
