Title: my Defender and a Tip
Post by: davidlandy on November 12, 2003, 19:36:29
Where I live in Northants , the jobsworths who operate our local contracted out Tip, sorry I mean recycling centre , will not let me in to tip our excess rubbish when I am in my defender on the basis that it is a van under their NEW rules.   It clearly isnt a van in the true sense of the word - my log book even says 'Utility vehicle' not 'Van' but will they have it ? No.

The next thing is that I read in our local paper about massively increased costs to the council taxpayer for the clearing of rubbish caused by fly tipping - and I also see on my laning outings more instances of fly tipping on byways. There are also the strong denials from the council that the new rules have caused this flytipping, but I can see the difference out there - it IS worse, there is definatley more s***e around.

As well as the tipping in more general areas, I really do not think that all byway tipping is down to defender owners, but I do wonder due to these new rules imposed by the council & their contractor if they do lend themselves to vans illegally tipping and us getting the blame potentially as 4x4 owners as we are seen to be more able to access these places.

Flipping tipical

Petty mindlessness of councils, If I was you I'd complain to my local MP.
If he or she cant help Try going to brussels and the Human rights court.
This way you could waste even more time.

Or you could do what some people do round my way and find a empty house and dump your rubbish in the front garden.

Another thing to do would be to withhold some of your council tax, as you dont use all that they provide you shouldn't have to pay in full.

Hope this helps M8

our local recycling centre has works vans turning up dumping stuff

and they had the gall to ask me about stuff i had in the doblo van!

the van isnt even marked with writing to indicate its a business truck..

they cant have height barriers cos the cargo's need to pick up the hardcore containers and bottle banks..  heheeh

The latest from Lancs CC over the summer is that anything they deem to be a commercial vehicle, including my 41 yr old 109" LR with canvas has to apply for a permit and is only allowed one permit per month, and you have to wait for the permit to arrive in the post before you can go to the tip.
The excuse I was given is that it is to reduce congestion  ???  So I need to make 3 trips in the car instead of 1 trip in the LR      :?:

Well, you know...  if we're talking about the motor in your avatar it *does* look like a works van, you know big company logo's down the side and being less than three years old and all....

/me starts banging his head repeatedly on the desk till something makes sense

Complaining does no good whatsoever.

it appears that nobody exists who is responsible for anything within our council.

the rules is the rules................meanwhile fly tipping escalates

I think that the council should fine the contractor who runs the tip every time they have to clean up after a fly tip incident,  that would wake em up!!

I had terrible problems with the local "amenity" site as "commercial vehicles" weren't allowed. On every occaision I got out of the drivers seat took the jobsworth around the car & pointed ot the tax disc to him which clearly states PRIVATE & LIGHT GOODS. I then always pointed out that if I was denied access I would lock the car & leave it blocking the gate as being as I paid my concil tax I was entitled to use the "amenity".

I wasn't the only person to threaten the operator with untold horrors as this summer the operator was kicked out after too many complaints to the local authority. It is now so different, greeted at the height restriction, barrier opened without any hassle & even a hand to unload.

Just complain to the right people & keep complaining until somethiing is done.

:D  :D  :D Dave,

You have to pick your moment. As far as I can tell you have about an hour slot to get in there and dump everything.

Great man that Captain Caveman but there is only one true crime fighter and it was the one that is Hong Kong Phooey.

As someone once said: Everybody was kung fu fighting. It was a little bit frightning.

Who were the charactors?

Henry (the mild-mannered Janitor)was Hong Kong Phooey
Spot was the Cat.
Penelope was the telephonist
Sarge was just Sarge (no name mentioned)

Am I right?

Preferred 'Top Cat' (based on Sergeant Bilko, if you didn't know)

back to tips; I use the same one as dyf (why does he change his moniker so often, got something to hide? :D ) and have never had a problem.
In the summer when I developed the water pump problem in the Disco, it happened dropping off stuff at the tip and they were very helpful.
Suppose it depends where you live, but I would agree with riachrdb; a well aimed complaint in best Mr Angry, yet restrained mode works best.
I always start off the conversation with, "And you are? Could you spell that for me so I can be sure to get it right when I speak to your boss..."

Dave,

Think you already have!! :D  :D

I remeber Top Cat. Wasn't that keen on it. He always seemed too clever for his own good!

Dear old Shaggy! amazing what you could get away with in those days, as Captain Pugwash will tell you

Wacky Races. Now there was a great cartoon.
