which leads me to my next question what side am i looking for it on ? and how much of a pig is it to change? its a rover 3.5 btw gotta change it asap so i can drive it to new house .... wouldnt look to good to the new neighbours if i had to tow it home lol

HI LRK.
The starter will be under the left hand manifold as you stand in front of the car looking at the engine.
relatively easy to change, 2 bolts if I remember rightly, but I think the standard fitting bolts have the star type head, not an alan key, so if you don't have a set then it would be worthwhile replacing them with normal bolts when you get them out,
Hope you get it sorted, as you say there’s nothing quite like a daily fix of V8
MERRY CHRISTMAS

make sure you disconnect the battery first or it might look like fireworks night rather then christmas.

Bit of an a**e on mine as it had Allen headed bolts and they can't take the torque. Good news is how cheap a brand new one is, no exchange. IIRC an EFi will fit a carb engine but it's smaller and faster, NICE :)
Try E-blag as the breakers often find good ones that are near new, around £20 I paid for one of my spares.
