has anyone heard of this
big lizard:
hi a friend of mine at work has told my a horror story about his mothers mk1 disco where the oil in the sump court fire and knackerd the engine :shock: he thinks this is a common problem so has anyone heard of this of is the little **** pulling my leg :x

Never heard of it, I don't think it's a common problem :)

cant say i,ve heard of this on any engine unless he means it was running on its own oil, diesels can do this and rev to extremes until they go bang but its not common and i,ve only seen it on stuff thats rolled over

It's quite common in plant machnery, when the turbo is worn and oil can leak through the seals. I've heard of it happening on a few cars too.
As for oil burning in the sump I doubt there would be sufficient air present to allow this to happen. By mass you need 15 times as much air, so by volume many, many times more.

must be rough machinery where you are then :lol: been a plant and an AG engineer for nearly 20 years now and only seen it twice
