Jimbo:
Thought I'd got a result, Lancaster Insurance gave a good online quote - but didn't list a 110 Hard Top Td5, only a 5 door estate, so I phoned them.

BIG mistake !

They class a 110 HT as a van, so it gets covered with their van policy - which means the premium goes from a reasonable £375 to an unbelievable £823

I've just spent over 30mins on the phone with Lancasters, trying to get them to explain why they list all other 110 HT's (the Tdi, TD, etc), they just don't cover a 110 Td5 HT.........................

Am I starting to get a little peed off with all this - I sure am !

Hightower:
Have you tried Adrian Flux.  They've always seemed quite knowledgeable about things 4x4, and the quotes aren't that bad either

Jimbo:
Adrian Flux wanted over £700, so I kept shopping around.......

Directline won, £520 all in, no alarm requirements, no sharp intake of breath cos it's a van, doesn't matter that it's gonna live at another address - and.... it includes (free of charge  :D ) Class 1 Business cover, which means that I can use it for work  8)

As I've still got the Disco, I effectively have no NCD for the 110, but Directline give you 1 year to start with, so assuming I don't claim in the forthcoming year, I'll get 2 years discount at renewal - result  :P

My missus has used Directline before, and we had no probs with them, she only left them as her work offered a staff discount scheme - but they don't cover 'vans'

Now, the tax.........

Latest pics in my gallery now.

Hate to pee on your parade, but norcounty is worth a look, just quoted me 416 quid with 40000 bus. miles on my 110 hard top. And I have a (ahem) less than perfect driving record shall we say.
I know this may not help you now, but it may help someone else.

We had the same experience with Lancaster for hubby's 90. we were quoted under 200 quid when we first phoned. On the day we went to collect the Landy we didn't have time to phone and arrange things before we left, so took all the details with us. While hubby was doing all the paperwork and handing over the cash, I phoned to activate the insurance. Guess what.....the price more than doubled. We were really stuck between a rock and a hard place, had no other insurers details with us so had to take the Lancaster price, the van only insurance. They class hard tops as a commercial vehicle. Also, alot of non-commercial insurers won't accept no-claims bonus from specialist insurers, so they've got you on that one as well. They advertise in all the major 4x4 mags as specialist insurers and as far as we are concerned they are just con artists, surely a specalist Land Rover insurer wouldn't insist that a hard top is a commercial vehicle, but the most popular type of vehicle on the road. We thought about contacting the mags they advertise in, but decided it would be a waste of time as they would think the money paid by Lancaster for the advert much more important than joe publics petty little complaint!!!
Well, that's my rant for the day, feeling somewhat better now!!!!
