why turn the wheel?? maybe a daft question but I woudnt think this was needed for belt issues.

Another cure is to get a tin of 'belt slip' from the local motor spares and spray that on the belt. If it is a belt issue, the noise will go away. Over Feb/Mar when I couldnt be bothered changing the large belt on the 300TDi, I did this every 500 miles or so until the weather was nice enough to allow me to change the belt.  I also believe there is a possible issue with the tensioner on the large belt but again the spray will help prove where the issue is.

To put load on the power steering pump and thus slow the pully down if the drive belt to the pump is the faulty one then it will squeek if it dosn't that belt then drives the same pulley that the alternator belt is also connected to give the engine a boot full to to see if it squeeks then you will know which belt is making the noise. :D
