Disco 1 wheel npise.
« on: July 17, 2013, 18:24:37 »
Hello All.

I've had a new noise turn up on the way home today. It sounds like a rubbing noise, but manifests like a knock.

It sounds like it coming from the FNS wheel and it quietens or disappears on left turns, returns on the straight and gets louder on right turns.

I'm going to jack up the wheel after dinner and have a look but some ideas on what to look for would be helpful.

The NS front and rear bearings were done at the last MOT about 4 months ago.

If it is a knocking noise it could be a cv joint on its way.

It doesn't knock so much, only is noisy like a knock.

It's a rubbing noise. but only for a portion of the wheels rotation.

It wasn't there this morning, so it's come on quite suddenly.

Going for a poke about in a minute....

OK. Good news and scary news...

Good news is... I've sorted it.

Scary news.... It was being caused by all 5 of the wheel nuts being lose.... one or two were only a couple of threads from being gone altogether.

I know we are all told to check wheel nuts after a thousand miles of having work done, but few of us ever do.

I'm now making it part of my monthly checks.  :police:
