(1/2) > >>

bobtailed disco:
Hi all
Now time to do the timing belt on my 300tdi auto disco. anyone know how to lock the flywheel at tdc? I have done 200 & 300 tdi manual belts before but been told the autos are differant.

Cheers Rob

trecfive:
On the bottom of the flywheel houseing there is a plate on the rear,in the hole that is threaded you screw in a spring loaded pin.

bobtailed disco:
would that be the same tool as the manuals? (3/16th drill bit in a wading plug)
cheers Rob

Range Rover Blues:
The flywheel (as such) isn't as strong but the ring gear is in the same place, AFAIK it's the same tool.

crazymac:
Yes it is the same pin as used on the manuals, but you will fail to get enough tension on the crank bolt with a proper locking tool on the front, the autos just will not do it like the manuals.

I looked into buying one but couldn't justify the cost (about £90 last time I looked) so I looked at pics on the internet, took some measurements from the crank pulley and had my own tool made by a mate that teaches welding and fabrication in the local college.

If you are anywhere near Pembrokeshire then you are welcome to borrow.
