steering setup

(1/1)

lambert:
Hi,

How do I find dead ahead on the steering?

I'm getting new bars so want to be sure its right in case it moves. I can do tracking as that is a measure on the inside of the wheels. I suspect that the steering wheel has been moved in the past amd so have the lock stops so how do I find the centre position of the steering box?

Cheers.

wizard:
Hi
Roughly I would fully turn the steering wheel one way and then mark it with a piece of tape, count the number of revolutions as you turn if fully the other way.
half of that should give you a center position.

lambert:
And then if the wheel is off centre reset it?

trecfive:
To centre the steering there is a bolt hole at the back of the steering box, from memory i think it is 6mm.

lambert:
It's so much nicer to drive now, the ball joints must have been seized or sommat but it's so smooth now with its greaseable joints.

Many thanks to those involved in the setup process.
