It seems the time has come to consider my future. Basically two options, one cut back on farming and get another paid job for say 8 hours a week. This means more tax and also more funding of this or another car but it would keep the Mrs happier. Or two start lambing again this means more work especially in spring but offers better insulation from market forces though not much. It also means a longer commitment to farming but farming is good for me it also opens up the eventual faint possibility of living at the farm, again good for me but Mrs would have major issues.

What to do?

LandRoger:

Reckon you might find it hard to leave farming it gets in the blood ,i know its hard work but its hard to beat for job satisfaction my family were farmers (we had our farm copulsory pyrchased by the MOD) and the nearest i could get to a farming lifestyle was as a game keeper and laterly a pest controler , its not a good time to be looking for work but whatever way you go i wish you luck with it,

lambert:
It's not a case of stopping entirely just more or less than now.

Hi Lambert

I had a similar predicament last year. Business was slowing right down and my wife got ill so she had to stop work.
I ended up getting a job working shifts just so that we had regular cash coming in and i could also get down the workshop on my days off.
Maybe you could find somthing along those lines.

Regards

I think as well there is the question of who I'm wanting to keep happy, me, daddy or wifey?
