Klunk and grind

Hi guys just picked up my Disco last night after a long MOT test, but it  passed, on the drive home it seemed every time I put the clutch in and out there is a klunk as if the mounts are Loose, also changing down from 3rd to 2nd and first, it makes the noise like not having the clutch down is this a common problem as it never happened with my series 3, or is the box totally shot ??? or what could be the problem

Thanks in advance,  oh and its an 1995 M REG 2.5 300 Tdi 5 dr non Abs model if that helps.

The rest of the Disco is fine and the Klunk etc isnt there all the time but its just changing from 3rd to 2nd and then to 1 st, but gear box's arnt that expensive are they ?
or could it just need  looking after with some oil or tlc or is it just a case of another box

Have u checked all your uj's ? Or the rubber donut on the rear prop?? I know it's just had an mot but that doesn't meen it's not been noticed.

Thanks Scatt but that is a job for today, will get under it and have a poke around, last resort is another box I guess are they expensive to get on their own or do you have to get the transfer box etc with ??

check your oil levels. If replacement box needed then google ashcroft transmisions,

Ashcrofts are bloody Exspensive!. Personally I'd find a decent second hand one, as your gonna need a clutch kit, clutch fork etc. Tbh I would imagine the problem lies else where there are many other factors to look at, transfer box, bushes, could even be a clutch fault.

Thanks guy for all comments, I have had a good look underneath and all seems well, I was told when I bought it that the clutch had been changed 10,000 miles ago so that should be ok, I will change the oil in the box later and see if that makes a difference, but looking at breakers yard around the Cheshire area the going price looks like anything  between £80 to £150 ish, so if all else fails than I will look at getting another unit when we are back from our break in Weymouth.

Have you checked out the rear A frame ball joint that can cause clunking when changing gear.

well klunk is now fixed as all the diff to prop shaft bolts have been done up properly, and the crunch into 2nd has been lessend by actually having oil in the gear box, jeeeeze, so now after a clean and a mini service all systems go.................................!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
