MOT to be axed!!
LandRoger:
The Gov are saying that there will be the chance for people to take thier pre 60s car for MOT of thier own accord and the insurance companies will give good discounts to those people that do ! but does that mean that they will hammer those who dont??

Even in first class show room condition they are unsafe compared to modern vehicles ( ).
Regardless what matters to insurance companies is if they are higher risk i.e the odds are the insurance company losing the gamble of premium vs payout.
I think the risk from careless mavericks taking advantage of no MOT-NO TAX will be low - they simple won't be able to afford to maintain a old classic car in a running condition for long, and the thrill will wain with the running costs. They will soon move on to a 200 quid auction astra to ride in illegally.
Where as someone who has forked out for a classic will in the majority drive the vehicle very little and maintain it to a high standard and be of lower risk group.
Their will be the budget crowd who may let slip essential maintainance (to a degree) until time and finances allow and yet still drive their vehicle on the road well aware they need to be careful. Individual incidents could have high cost to all those involved of course - but still I think it would be an insignificant risk to the insurance company and be in minority compared to everyone else on the road.
What we do need is to inform on anyone who is driving 'classic' vehicles that are clearly not e.g Series 1 Defenders, K series turbo mini classics etc Any one who is selling Logbooks for tax exempts and so on.

the point being the gov will have looked at this and thought it a good way to say "look how kind we are to you motorist types we give you this dispensation for free," all the time thinking it will save them some time and therefore money when in actual fact it will tie up ever more funds and resourses to police and control. like i said befor it will end in tears for those who are on the pointed end i.e. the classic car fan.
Saffy:
covert the combustion engine less
kick motorsport out of the UK first
lambert:
Really, honestly?
