Converting a 200tdi engine to run on Petrol ?
lambert:
Turbo Direct Injection sorry to be a pendant. That said as you can direct inject petrol would it not be simpler to re-work the glow plug holes for sparks and use a programmable chip for the ignition with separate coil packs. As an idea?

Erm, surley the combustion champer in the piston doesn't suit a petrol engine either? they certainly aren't common.
Also you've have to lowe the C:R, usually by avoiding piston projection (lower piston crowns) and a different head.
My Cavalier 1,7D was basically a 2.0l block with the normal cam carrier bolted on top of a special IDI head. Nice engine if a bit underpowered.
You could probably bore the 2.5 TDi out to over 2.8 on petrol too, but as has been said, LR produces a 16 valve 2.0 MPI and they were poo.
