Got Caught been naughty in the bath!!!!

--- Quote from: "muddyweb" ---First off, get as much weight out of it as you can... simple things like sound deadening can weigh a surprising amount.

Pardon, Can you repeat that I can't hear you? :D
--- Quote from: "muddyweb" ---Big wheels will provide greater under-axle clearance, but they will reduce your effective acceleration (unless you change the drivetrain) and will increase the unspring weight of the vehicle... this isn't what you want on a race vehicle.
--- End quote ---
Changing Wheels for different Days I can live with.
--- Quote from: "muddyweb" ---You want to keep the induction path as short as possible, so if you are using a snorkel, which many people believe is a good thing just to keep the crud out of the filter, the routing of it is important. Also, because the engine will be revving high, you need to make it as unrestrictive as possible... big tubes are good.
--- End quote ---
I can see twin snorkels here :D
--- Quote from: "muddyweb" ---As for a lift... I would say that you don't really want to go high... it raises the C of G of the vehicle and that will decrease stability. *Good* quality and / or multiple dampers are vital because they get plenty of abuse.
--- End quote ---
This is the biggy so far then, changing springs and shockers etc, for different days, would be a complete pain in the bum. :(
--- Quote from: "muddyweb" ---Moreso than ever, don't try and do everything at once on it... you will learn what works and what doesn't for your vehicle and modify it to suit.
--- End quote ---
By the sound of it, what works when racing is going to be very different from what I need for crossing your average Mud Pit. :(

--- Quote ---I recon a 90 Pickup\Hard Top is a fairly good starting point for that.
Few Obvious Additions for racing Roll Cage, Harnesses, Fire Extinguisher, Extra Rear Lights, Power Cut Off, I'm bound to have missed something.
Now the complicated bit. As An Off-Roader, I would go 2" Lift, Big Wheels, Snorkel, etc. etc. As finance allowed. However How much of this is going to hinder Racing?? Changing Wheels for different events isn't too bad, but much more and you get a real chore which knowing me will only happen 2 or 3 times.

from my own experiance(stop sniggering at the back)
90/88 coiler is THE way to go,if its 90 go soft top or truck cab,dnt bother with a hardtop,if its 88 go s1 look alike,
ill run through a 90 set up for u since thats what i have-wheels n tyres go small =fast acceleration,i dunno what the coures down ur way are like but up here point n squirt rules, suspension lift :? the more space between bumpstop n axles = go faster as more travel is available ,if its a diesel a snorkel may be a good idea but make it as big diam as pos,
suspension,u can suck it n see or try n work out roughly what u need n try it,go for double dampers all round preferably gas 1's,i run twin ranchos on the front n single procomps on the rear (would fit twin but dnt need them yet)also if you have twin dampers it allows u to run softer springs so when u come in to land its more progresive rather than being hard with stiff springs n stiff single damper,at the mo i run bout 5 inchs between axle n bumpstop with 150lb ft springs all round, still bit soft but will do for now as i do trials aswell on the same set up,anyway, thats enough for now, need to go n have a think bout what else ull need

In many respects, yes. You can put a compromise setup together of course, but it will never be as good as a dedicated system.. If I tried to race my 90 as it is now, it would be a disaster... but it's not too bad in a challenge environment.
Xtremeteam:
just to pass scruitineering up here(arc rules) u will need a afff fire extinguiser, vehicle master switch will external pull, full arc spec cage, secure seats & preferably full harnesses, extra throttle return spring fitted so to shut the throtlle if the normal 1 breaks(seen it happen),ok/sos board, high level rear fogs,2x door Nos(supplied by club) type a or afr helemt (get it stickered by the scrutineer) & a min of a clubmans non race off road comp license
Xtremeteam:
in regards to the suspension i will be runnin the same set up for prob the rest o the year as its a ttl pain to change as i need it stiff for comps n soft for trials,if at a comp its too soft slow down n go for a finish, its better than goin mad or changin the set up to suit, best way is find a mid way n go from there
