Brake caliper reconditioning
(1/1)
SteveGoodz:
Howdy folks,
One of the pistons in my O/S/F brake caliper is sticking and has worn the pad down to the backing plate
I'm thinking it's worthwhile refurbishing the calipers but don't know where to start - except to remove them from the vehicle, of course.
Any chance someone here has done this before and can give me some tips?
TIA :azn:

There is a very good thread in the technical archive on www.lr4x4.com
You don't have to go as far as is detailed in that thread, new seals and pistons are usually all that is required.

Thanks to Andy and RRB for their replies. Sorry I haven't responded sooner but been away all week and the hotel's wifi was out until yesterday
I've managed to free off the sticking piston and will change the pads tomorrow. If it seizes again I'll just fit a pair of new calipers ... but fingers crossed :cheesy:

just thought I'd post a final update to my thread.
Almost a month on from replacing the pads and freeing up the caliper/piston there's no hint of binding and the car pulls up nice and straight so i guess I did a fair job
