i use an elecrical contact cleaner or brake cleaner because theres no residue once its evaporated off, can be quite expensive but my local pound shop do it for you guessed a pound a can

mattyme:
brake cleaner does the job but throttle body cleaner is probably a bit better at getting rid on the crap...

id use either, which ever was closet to hand.
