Series 3 Water pump (9 Stud)

(1/2) > >>

joe90:
Ok so heres the problem. Got a leak on the shaft seal of the water pump, just behind the fan belt pully block, removed the pump from the vehicle no probs, but how do you get the pump assembly in bits.

Have an over haul kit from paddocks and a new 9 stud gasket, in the landrover manual it says drift it out, but where the shaft meets the impeller it looks like its threaded.

Any ideas

hobbit:
Is it worth the trouble, the pump is under £14.20+vat

Found it not worth when it comes to repairing them. I'd rather replace the whole unit.

What does the the kit consist of?

joe90:
The kit contains new impeller, new shaft with fitted bearing and a new carbon seal. Found that having the right tools helps to - flywheel puller and bench vice, makes for good progress!!

hobbit:
Sounds like fun, I imagine if there is threading it would be relevant of the direction of the pump rotation, of would unscrew opposite to the pump rotation. Let me know how you get on, I still prefer a complete replacement. Got enough on with the jobs I have no option to do, like oil pumps and bearing shells :?

joe90:
well considering ive run the series for a year without any major problems, i thought it about time to get my hands dirty again! although i recently did the full springs, shocks and bushes routine, new seats alround and a full checker plate load liner + wheel carrier!!
