Diesel smoke???

(1/2) > >>

Hi all, Good to see Mud Club back up and running

Just a quick question about Diesel smoke and M.O.T  :undecided:

I have fitted a 2 1/4 Diesel lump that does smoke a bit but clears a bit when warmed up, does the M.O.T check emmishions or is it a visual smoke test? Landy is a 1971 SWB soft top if that helps.

Any thoughts

I think youll be fine with a 71, im sure someone will be along to claritfy but that age is just a vsiual emissions test so as long as theres not mega smoke i wouldnt worry, whack some injector cleaner in and see how it goes

My 110 TD can be seen from space when I fire it up.. 30 seconds later not a plume in sight... or aircraft come to think of it. No issues with MOT so far.

Ok thanks for the tips. Mot is booked for monday  :undecided:

Hope it passes, wanna book a off road slot at billing next week!

What colour smoke?

White and makes your eyes water, unburnt diesel - probably knackered glow plugs in the engine - once the engine is warm and it clears then you'll have no issues with an MOT.

Black - Soot, over fuelling or lack of air flow (blocked filter), open the revs up to about 2 - 3 K once the engine is warm, does it fill the street with smoke? If so it'll fail the MOT visual test.

Blue - Oil, yeah that's a fail on a visual

White and clears quickly - Steam - head gasket or something similar.
