what off roader?

Hi everyone,

Really want to get into greenlaning and off reading events etc.

Looking for my first vehicle at the moment, and what a choice there is. My budget is 1-1.5, must be roadworthy but id only be using it for off roading.

I'm drawn to range rover 4.6 v8 but not sure I can justify the extra expense of running it to and from events etc.

Disco 200 tdi looks good too?

Can I ask the experts what engine you think is best, pokey v8 petrol or do you think a diesel is better suited to off road performance?

Range rover or discovery? Or is there a better option for a first timer?

Personaly I would go for a Disco mate, 300 would be better than a 200. Discos have the comfort of a Rangie but better off road than a Rangie, I am
sure people will be along and controdict this and even try to sway to to the Jap market, its really a personal choice.
I would try and get to an event with someone and ask if you could try out the different vehicles, if you explain your predicament I am sure people
will be willing to help you out.

Hi Shaun welcome to the club, be warned you could be opening a can of worms with the old V8 v Diesel debate  8-[    :D
Personally i think that a disco 200tdi is the best all rounder for your budget, a disco 300 is a little nicer on the road purely because of the face lift and interior but i feel the 200's are better off road & cheaper. Don't forget to fill in your location you never know someone local to you maybe able to show you the ropes or there motors  :D

I've only offroaded 2 different Landies a 1998 Freelander Diesel now sold and i've moved to a TD5 Discovery perforoms excellent on and off road majority of the guys in the offroad club im in are  nearly all Discos they are mainly V8's   anyways have fun

personally id get an sj mate they cheap to run easy to fix easy to modify and go most places landys will
