Bonnet cable snapped!

(1/1)

JimP:
The bonnet release on my 94 soft dash snapped yesterday , question is how the hell do I open the bonnet now to try to fix it?????

ChrisW70:
I had the cable snap on the disco, I took the whole cable off the bracket in the footwell and pulled it hard which released it, may work for you.

Range Rover Blues:
Mine snapped where the outer cable bends at the front of the wing/end of the bonnet.

Lift the edge of the bonnet then reach underneath for the outer cable, it sits on 2 plastic pegs.  Yank it out, if you are a bit brutal the outer will slip away from the bonnet lock.

You then end up with enough inner cable (hopefully) to grab with plyers.

If you can't do that I'm afraid the worst case is smashing the grille in.

squaddie_fox:
you can get through the grill without mashing it, but it is a pain. have had to do it a couple of times. the vertical slats that hold the horizontal ones together can be snipped and you can squeeze your hand in. if you put a little pressure on the bonnet it comes open easier.
