exhaust question

hello all
i have a lwb vit and keep catching the large exhaust box witch is just behind the cat so want to get rid
but if i change it for a piece of pipe would it be too loud as the only other box is a little one near the tail end
i have a little box that looks like a cherry bomb shape that i could put in and is smaller than the large box i am replacing so should not catch
