Latest mad scheme- need spray paint advice

(1/1)

brixworth-alan:
Hi- now all the big mechanicals on my s2a are slowly accelerating in the direction of the new chassis, I'm turning to the bodywork. This is in pretty undented order, but has a few coats of rubbish looking handpainted cracked faded paint. I'm loath just to sand flat and overspray as I suspect it may not have etch primer under it, but has anyone got any top tips?

bobtailed disco:
Dont do what i did...
shot blast it got wrinkled pannels now lol.
But nice clean surface for 3 coats of acid etch primer then (when i get chance to finish it) 4 coats of bronze green.

Range Rover Blues:
I have a mate who resprays classic cars and when possible he starts a bare metal respray with a hot air gun of all things, far less mess than paint stripper, far less damage than shot blasting and far far quicker than sanding down.

brixworth-alan:
Thanks- I did have a go with a heat gun but it takes AGES unless its on the flaky bits- probably the etch coat doesn't want to let go. But it was worth a try.

Has anyone used a self-etch high build primer? Someone suggested that could eb agood idea, but I haven't tracked down a high build primer that also etches yet.

cheers

Alan
