Defender Rear Diff flange
« on: August 22, 2010, 12:59:14 »
Hi I am in the process of fitting a 300 rear axle to my 90 I have got the old axle off and just took the rear diff flange off to put on the disco axle but instead of seeing lots of splines there is only 4 on my old diff so it will not fit the new axle.

Does this mean my diff could be a different ratio to the new one or is it just because my original one is old style.

Could I take the diff and shafts out my old drum brake axle and put them in the new disco axle.

Or should I just get a new flange to fit the disco axle ?
Thanks,
      Baz

I managed to answer one of my question not the 10 spline shafts and diff won't fit in as the bolt holes in the flanges at the end of the halfshafts don't line up with the disco one so its on the search for a new 4 hole diff flange for a 24 spline diff.

Does anyone know as the diff are so different if the ratios will be the same.

Thanks,

The ratios will (if standard) be the same.............

You can get the 4 bolt flanges with seals on ebay easy enough!!
gone from 200tdi.... to 300tdi... still with loads done to it, in fact, even more than the last truck...LOL!!!
