kevinf:
just a few facts about dpf
firstly if the vehicle isn't normally driven hard enough to burn off the soot the engine management should do it automatically if conditions allow or it can be done via the dealer plug in diagnostic kit
secondly the ash residue produce by the engine doing what its ment to do is collected in the particulate filter and stays there up until the point it reaches a pre determined weight/volume dependent on how its measured then the DPF should be changed
thirdly this is normally checked at a specific service and then at regular intervals after that
obviously each manufacturer will have its own version of events and specifications etc
sorry i cant give you specific ford info(this is merc commercial info)

slightly off topic but does anyone know of a hand held multi brand diagnostic tool like the hawkeye but for an 04 c class an 03 td5 disco and an 04 soon to be 61 jimny all of which have a lot of computers and the dealer service bills would be painfull.
